HEAD OF LEGAL, REGULATORY & COMPLIANCE

Reporting to the Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, the Head of Legal, Regulatory and Compliance is responsible for providing analysis on the legal implications of the business activities to ensure conformity to the existing legal framework. With a strong commercial and Industry knowledge, as well as local legal and regulatory knowledge, you will develop and monitor end-to-end compliance management process of the legal and regulatory obligations.

Key Performance Areas

With the ever-changing legal and compliance landscape in our sector, you will drive strategic focus and project management on implementation of programs to manage AML/CFT compliance as well as Data Privacy Compliance amongst other compliance issues. To this end, your self-discipline and resilience in planning and organizing work, project management skills, as well as your adaptability to the changing needs of the business are key to the role.

Furthermore, you will provide legal advisory services to the business on contractual negotiations as well as developing training and awareness programs on legal and regulatory matters. You will oversee the process of Legal documentation; drafting & reviewing, managing litigation process and ensure effective management of legal and contractual risks. These require you to have a strong detail & quality orientation, to demonstrate strong decision-making ability, to have clarity in communication, and have a commercial acumen coupled with organizational awareness.

Key Competencies

You will demonstrate the competence to develop and deliver annual plans and contribute to corporate strategic business plans as a member of the leadership team complying with the set quality, safety and environmental standards. An ability to coach, mentor, manage people and support their career development as well being able to manage stress and resolve conflicts, whilst building networks and collaborative relationships, would provide you the edge.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in law
  • Master’s degree in law or a business field would be an added advantage
  • Relevant professional certifications
  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience in legal and/or regulatory affairs of which 5 years must be in a Management role
  • Prior experience with a corporate-commercial law firm and / or Company focused on legal and regulatory compliance.
  • Management experience within a competitive industry or telecommunications/ ICT Sector is advantageous
