We have successfully provided mobile broadband and voice networks to 67 villages and connected 133 government schools with dedicated broadband Internet!
Today Mascom CEO Dzene Makhwade-Seboni officially hands over the Southern District Digital Project. The Southern District Digital Empowerment Project is a monumental initiative that we have undertaken with pride and dedication. We have successfully provided mobile broadband and voice networks to 67 villages and connected 133 government schools with dedicated broadband Internet. These efforts are not merely about deploying technology but empowering communities, enhancing education, and enabling local businesses to thrive.
We have ensured that every primary, junior secondary, and senior secondary school in the Southern District now has reliable broadband access. This connectivity will enable students to access a wealth of online resources, engage in interactive learning, and develop digital skills essential for the future. Our commitment extends beyond infrastructure; it includes empowering educators and students with the knowledge and tools needed to harness the full potential of the Internet.
The impact of this project goes far beyond technological advancement. By bringing connectivity to remote areas, we are opening doors to new opportunities, improving access to information, and creating a platform for innovation and growth. The schools that now have broadband access will be able to provide a better learning environment for students, equipping them with the skills they need to succeed in a digital world.
For local businesses, improved connectivity means access to broader markets, enhanced communication, and the ability to leverage digital tools to grow and thrive. Farmers can now access real-time market information, weather updates, and innovative agricultural practices, which can significantly boost productivity and income. Women entrepreneurs can utilise social media and e-commerce platforms to expand their businesses and reach new customers.
Our work does not stop here. This project is part of a broader vision to ensure that every citizen in Botswana has access to the digital tools and resources they need to improve their lives. We are committed to continuing our efforts to expand connectivity, promote digital literacy, and support local communities.
Looking ahead, we plan to roll out similar initiatives in other districts, ensuring that no community is left behind. We will continue to invest in state-of-the-art technology, build robust partnerships, and drive innovation to create a digitally inclusive Botswana. We envision a future where every student has access to quality education, every entrepreneur can build a thriving business, and every community can prosper through the power of connectivity.
