Mascom is excited to announce the rebranding and repositioning of its Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) product, now renamed MyHome Fibre. The transition from the previous name, MySurf, was driven by the need to clearly distinguish the FTTH product from other offerings, such as the mobile LTE-based MySurf. The new name, MyHome Fibre, aligns more intuitively with home connectivity solutions, making it easier for customers to identify and associate with reliable, high-speed internet for their households.

The product categories have also been revamped, moving away from the traditional mineral-themed tiers—Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, and Diamond—to a fresh and modern naming structure: Basic, Standard, Plus, Pro, and ProMax. This updated approach not only simplifies the product lineup but also enhances its appeal, fostering a sense of innovation and driving consumer engagement.

Q: What is FTTH?
A: FTTH stands for Fiber to the Home. It is a technology that delivers high-speed internet, television, and telephone services using optical fiber cables directly to individual homes.

Q: How does FTTH work?
A: FTTH works by transmitting data as light signals through optical fibers. These fibers are made of glass or plastic and can transmit large amounts of data over long distances with minimal loss.

Q: What are the benefits of FTTH?
A:
Higher Speeds: FTTH can provide faster internet speeds compared to traditional copper or coaxial cable connections.
Greater Bandwidth: Optical fibers can carry much more data, supporting multiple devices and high-definition content.
Reliability: Fiber optic cables are less prone to interference and degradation, ensuring a more stable connection.
Future-Proof: FTTH networks can easily be upgraded to support even higher speeds and new technologies.

Q: How is FTTH different from other types of internet connections?
A:FTTH provides a direct fiber optic connection to your home, while other connections like DSL, cable, and wireless rely on a mix of fiber and older technologies, which can limit speed and performance.

Q: How is FTTH installed?
A: Installation involves running a fiber optic cable from the nearest distribution point to your home. A technician will install a fiber optic terminal inside your home, which connects to your router and other devices.

Q: Is FTTH available in my area?
A: Availability of FTTH varies by location. Mascom internal Fibre is available in Block 7 and Phakalane. Other areas in Gaborone are connected via BOFINET NLL Fibre.

Q:How long does it take to install FTTH?
A: Installation time can vary depending on the complexity of the installation and local conditions. Installation takes 2-3 working days on Mascom Internal Fibre and on BOFINET NLL it must be a maximum 7 working days after feasibility confirmation.

Q: What equipment do I need for FTTH?
A: You will need a fiber optic terminal, which is installed by the service provider, and a compatible router to distribute the internet connection within your home.

Q: Can I use my existing router with FTTH?
A: It depends on the router. Many modern routers are compatible with FTTH, but it’s best to check with your service provider to ensure compatibility.

Q: What speeds can I expect with FTTH?
A: FTTH can offer speeds ranging from 100 Mbps to 1 Gbps or higher, depending on the service plan and provider.

Q: Is FTTH more expensive than other types of internet?
A: The cost of FTTH can be higher than traditional internet services due to the advanced technology and infrastructure. However, the higher speeds and reliability often justify the cost.

Q: What is the maintenance like for FTTH?
A: FTTH networks require minimal maintenance compared to traditional copper networks. Optical fibers are durable and less prone to damage and interference.

Q: Are there any downsides to FTTH?
A: The primary downside is the initial installation cost and availability. In some areas, the infrastructure may not be in place yet, limiting access to FTTH.
